it is the little things

the small things. the ones that are ubiquitous with life in America. the AC in your car, the safe roads that you drive on, the friends that you see every day, the cell phone that keeps you sane, the distance to the bathroom. it is this last subject that i have decided to write a short expose' on.

we all know how it works in the state so lets talk about how it works in kuwait.

hmmm were to start? well first off the shower trailers as they are aptly named are just that a single wide trailer that serves a bathroom/shower for hundreds of service members all over the middle east.

so lets start our journey to the shower trailer.....

ok so i just got back from patrol i decide that i could really go for a shower, i gather my shampoo, soap, clean clothes and off i go. as i step out side and am blinded by the sun (i didn't wear my oakleys for fear leaving them in the trailer) "oh well" i say to myself and squint my eyes and walk on. i finally finish the half a city block walk to the trailer i step inside and see that it is packed the heck out. i decided to walk to the next one down. upon entering i realize that there is no AC no wonder every one is in the other one. "what the heck?!" i think to myself but i decide i might as well just stay here.

i set my stuff down and realize that i forgot my towel. out into the blinding sun to fetch it. ok i made it back i set my stuff inside the stall and start the water because it is freezing cold. by the time that i step in the water is hot, not just a little but almost scalding. oh ah i turned off the hot water but it doesn't cool down i try using just the hot, no difference. i guess i will just have to use extremely hot water.

as i finish i realize that the TCNs have closed the trailer for cleaning and are going to town on the rest of the trailer. they all sort of paused and stared at me for a second then they go back to cleaning. i dry off and get dressed only to see that the weird leak from the shower head had managed to soak half of my clothes. at this point i just want to get back to my hooch to crash.

as i step out into the blinding sun. i start navigating the maze of PCBs back to mine. about half way there i realize that the heat is making me sweat like mad. wait! i take my towel and throw it over my head i can barely see but it blocks the sun and keeps the heat off. mad that my shower had been so dang hot i started walking faster and faster only to run square into this huge angry guy that i had manged to tick off at chow a week ago. he looked like he wanted to eat me. i apologized with out even stopping he didn't look like the forgiving type.

i finally make it back to my PCB and swing open the door and march to my hooch when i noticed female voices. wait what is going on i thought to my self. i stop and look around.... oops i am in the wrong PCB! i make a hasty exit i remember that since i didn't use my usual trailer i have to walk one more to the left.

i make it to my PCB and start walking towards my hooch i see the white board on the left it say "berthing inspection tomorrow at 0900" i change it to 0500 hahaha i kill my self. i swing open the sheet that serves as a door only to find that it is pitch black. i reach for my sure fire flashlight, wait i am not wearing my body armor. i figure i can make it to my rack and get the light... "i guess not" i think as i trip over my body armor and fall flat on my face. i finally make it back to my rack, lay down and fade off in to sleep.

"HEY BUTLER!!!!" i hear as i slowly start to revive "you need to go the intel brief" yells some person that i don't even know. but that is another story.
